Qlimax and the appearance of Armin van Buuren or Ferry Corsten in its line up

The Qlimax edition in 2000 was not only the beginning of a great festival, but also the appearance of artists such as Armin van Buuren or Ferry Corsten in its line up.

We were recently talking on our social networks about the Don Diablo performance in Defqon.1 2004. In it, we included the appearance of Headhunterz with his previous "aka" Antifact and some very young Showtek in live format. Incredible but true. The beginnings of Don Diablo went through hard and you can always add to your musical curriculum being part of the first poster of the number 1 hardstyle festival in the world.

Let's go further back in time. Year 2000. What we now know as Q-dance, was in full transition and was known as "Qlass Elite" or "Q". To a major surprise, it consisted of several genres such as techno, hardtrance and UK hardhouse, in addition to the participation of artists such as Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten o Rank 1 in your line up. This not only happened in 2000, but also in 2001, where we found the presence of artists such as Laidback Luke or Don Diablo again, or years later with Yves deruyter.

Q-Dance told us the intrahistory of this first Qlimax on the occasion of the celebration of its 20 years. When trouble comes, they come in droves. Due to some extreme weather conditions, the Eindhoven Beursgebouw was completely flooded. Either they bombarded the water or the event had to be canceled. Luckily, they managed to dry the venue in the absence of an hour before the event and it continued as planned. To make matters worse, the heat hit the event (the first Qlimax was held in June) to such an extent that they had to open the doors of the enclosure and completely stop the music for a few minutes due to the noise it made outside. By last, I am, who was in charge of closing the event, missed his flight. He was replaced by Dana, who performed a legendary set becoming Miss Qlimax.

Qlimax has grown over the years to become one of the biggest indoor festivals in Europe. It has been able to overcome all adversities, including the terrible pandemic that has hit us since March 2020. To such an extent, that the audiovisual experience recreated a few months ago has its place on the platform Netflix. Hopefully we can add another year in the history of Qlimax at the end of the year in Gelredome!

About Erik

One summer of 2014 I wondered what an electronic music festival would be like and 5 years later, I wonder what would become of me without such a festival regularly..
